Meet our team: Emily Cooper

Published 6 October 2022
Emily Cooper is the learner engagement process lead at Te Mahi Ako. Emily started as a pool lifeguard with Christchurch City Council in 2005. She assumed she would move on after she finished her degree, but she had awesome managers who gave her lots of different opportunities.

She was able to develop her passion for adult education, and stayed with the Council until 2016 when she joined Skills Active.

It’s this kind of support and progression that Emily wants for all learners in te ahumahi ā-rēhia, the active recreation, leisure and entertainment sectors.

At Te Mahi Ako, Emily occupies an important new role that focuses on the data and the detail behind our learners and their journeys.

“I will be looking at our systems and processes, and finding ways for us to work smarter, not harder,” Emily says.

Her mission is to support the Engagement team to meet its goals in terms of learner experience, so that in turn, learners can succeed and meet their goals.

“Seeing our learners achieve, and helping them travel along their pathway, is what I enjoy most and what I’m proud of at work,” Emily says.
