Meet our team: Helenah Broughton

In this series, we are introducing you to some of the awesome people who work for the Skills Active Aotearoa Group, either at Te Mahi Ako or at Skills Active.

Helenah is a people and culture coordinator at Skills Active Aotearoa.

Her career so far has featured a little bit of everything, and a little bit everywhere – including a stint in marketing in Paris! The City of Lights wasn’t for her, though, and now she’s lighting up our office instead. She’s worked in people and culture teams for public sector and not-for-profit organisations, bringing a diverse range of experience to Skills Active Aotearoa.

Helenah’s mission at Skills Active Te Mahi Ako is to help create a workplace with positive working relationships, where staff feel valued and are taken care of. “Being able to make people feel welcomed and valued in a workplace,” Helenah says, is one of the things she enjoys most about her work. “I think having a positive working environment is very important and if you can create a space that you and the people around you love, then work becomes a much more enjoyable place to be.”

She loves the style of qualifications we offer. “I’m proud that we’re able to offer qualifications through work-based learning,” she says. “I think being hands-on is a great option for ākonga, as it’s often a more effective and enjoyable way of learning.”

As our people and culture coordinator, Helenah would love to see a workplace where staff meet as a broader group once a year, have regular social club gatherings, and are all one whānau who work together.

Cheers to that!
