New Zealand Apprenticeship: Senior Pool Lifeguard (Level 4)
This apprenticeship is for lifeguards who are leading lifeguard shifts and teams in aquatic facilities, and want to take their knowledge and skills to the next level.
As a senior pool lifeguard, you will come out of the apprenticeship armed with the knowledge required to supervise, coordinate and educate pool staff.
To enrol in this programme, you need to be working in a paid job at a pool or an aquatic facility, or self-employed.

This 120-credit apprenticeship is designed to be completed in about 2 years.
You'll be trained and observed in the workplace. Your assessments will be completed online.
Key learning areas include:
- Coordinating pool lifeguard plans and adapting shifts
- Applying advanced lifeguarding skills and aquatic supervision and rescue techniques
- Supervising health and safety procedures, risk assessment plans and pool water quality checks
- Responding to customer needs in an aquatic facility.
