Small group trainer programme (Level 4)
This programme is designed for qualified personal trainers and group fitness instructors who wish to add small group training to their repertoire.
Completing the Small Group Trainer programme will arm you with the skills to run safe and successful training sessions with groups of four or more participants.
To enrol in this programme, you need to be working in a paid job with an exercise facility or organisation, self-employed, or a volunteer with regular and consistent shifts.

It's a prerequisite of this programme that you hold a recognised qualification in personal training or group fitness instruction. If you do not already hold an eligible qualification, unfortunately we won't be able to enrol you. Please start by contacting one of our regional learner advisors to find out if it's right for you.
This 12-credit programme is designed to be completed in 2 months.
You'll be trained, observed and assessed in the workplace.
Key learning areas include:
- Planning, delivering and reviewing a group training session
- Pre-screening participants
- Group safety management
- Contingency planning.
By completing this programme you will earn 20 continuing professional development (CPD) points, under the New Zealand Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) CPD system.
