Outdoor Leadership activity: High Ropes
Balance, focus and confidence will take you to the top in the world of high ropes. Mid-air platforms, bridges and obstacles are designed to test limits and build bonds between participants.
These electives are designed for outdoor recreation professionals who wish to hone their skills and expertise in high ropes.
Choose your programme level
To enrol in these programmes, you need to be working in outdoor recreation, in a paid job, self-employed, or as a volunteer with regular and consistent shifts.
If you don't have a role lined up, contact us to talk about how we can help.
The high ropes elective is available at Level 4 and Level 5 (Instruction).
You'll be trained, observed and assessed in the workplace, and some or all of your assessments will be completed online.
You will complete a Fundamentals module, in addition to the high ropes elective. Once you've completed Fundamentals at each level, you can add further electives without having to repeat it.
The evidence required at each level is outlined below:
Level 4 graduates will be able to plan and lead traversing and climbing high ropes activities
- At least 10 days' experience of high ropes (4 hours' duration or more) with at least 5 of those days as a high ropes leader or assistant leader.
Level 5 (Instruction) graduates will have the skills of the level below, and they will also be able to instruct participants in high ropes experiences
- At least 30 days' experience of high ropes (4 hours' duration or more) with at least 20 days' experience of instructing
- Instruction experience can be as an assistant instructor or co-instructor.
Once you've achieved your Outdoor Leadership certificate, you will be registered with the New Zealand Register of Recreation Professionals. You can keep your registration current by re-registering every three years
