Te Mahi Ako is proud to announce the launch of two targeted initiatives to support workforce development in Aotearoa: Building Foundations scholarships and Business Development Grants.

Building Foundations is a nationwide scholarships initiative for our NZ Certificate in Entertainment and Event Operations Level 3 or NZ Certificate in Exercise Foundations Level 3. These scholarships offer zero-fee enrolment and fully subsidised assessments to make career progression accessible for everyone in the active recreation, leisure, and entertainment industries.

Te Mahi Ako chief executive Maren Frerichs says, “We believe that everyone deserves a strong foundation for success. The Building Foundations Scholarships offer our ākonga a zero-fee pathway with full support, so they can focus on achieving their dreams in the Exercise and Entertainment sectors.

“At Te Mahi Ako, we’re committed to empowering individuals. The Building Foundations Scholarships are our way of ensuring that our ākonga have the skills and knowledge they need to transform their passion into a lasting career.”

Our Business Development Grants are specifically designed to help registered small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to thrive. These grants provide a unique opportunity for businesses in the Auckland, Northland, Waikato, and Bay of Plenty regions to upskill their workforce and enhance their competitiveness without any financial burden.

Full eligibility criteria for each initiative can be found on their respective pages on our website.

“At Te Mahi Ako, we believe in the potential of small and medium enterprises to make a big impact,” says Ms Frerichs. “The Business Development Grant initiative is our way of partnering with business to unlock new opportunities for growth and innovation through their workforce. This grant initiative is designed to provide businesses with access to industry-developed vocational education and training, empowering them to thrive and grow in a competitive environment.”

These scholarships represent an almost $200,000 investment in fostering the future of Aotearoa’s workforce. “We recognise the challenges that our sectors are facing. That’s why Te Mahi Ako is investing close to $200,000 into our sectors, with the aim of helping in a small but meaningful way. By removing financial barriers, we hope to provide ākonga and businesses with access to the education and training they might not otherwise have the resources to support.”

“Together, we’re building a future full of opportunities.”
