A future coach to watch

Meet Josh Capstick, a talented young goalkeeper who’s already making waves in New Zealand football. At 19 years of age, Josh currently plays in the National League and works with the Wellington Phoenix Academy, where he’s been developing his skills since joining in 2021.

Josh’s football journey began with Petone FC, his junior club, where his passion for the game and natural talent between the posts first shone through.

Recently, Josh completed the New Zealand Certificate in Sport Coaching (Level 3) with Te Mahi Ako — an impressive achievement after a challenging year of injuries. His determination and persistence saw him push through and finish strong.

When he’s not on the pitch, Josh is busy coaching young kids, sharing his love of the game and helping the next generation of players grow in confidence and skill.

“I enrolled in the Sport Coaching course to develop my coaching skills and help get my NCEA Level 3,” Josh says. “My biggest takeaway was learning the key attributes of coaching and how to work with different kids and their abilities.”

With his dedication, resilience, and leadership both on and off the field, Josh is already showing the qualities of a true professional — and a future coach to watch.
