Course Overview

This programme equips learners with the foundational knowledge and practical skills needed to operate swimming and spa pools safely and effectively. It covers key topics including maintaining water quality, understanding pool treatment processes, handling and storing chemicals safely, and carrying out routine water testing and monitoring.

As part of the programme, learners can also work towards achieving Unit Standard 20046 – Monitor pool water quality and the safe storage of chemicals. Successfully completing this standard supports ongoing professional development and capability within the aquatics industry.

This programme is for people working in plant operations, aquatic treatment systems and advanced pool testing.  Completing the Aquatic Treatment Systems Level 4 certificate will give you the skills to work unsupervised in a water quality testing and treatment role.

This apprenticeship is for lifeguards who are leading lifeguard shifts and teams in aquatic facilities, and want to take their knowledge and skills to the next level. As a senior pool lifeguard, you will come out of the apprenticeship armed with the knowledge required to supervise, coordinate and educate pool staff.
