New Zealand Certificate in Tikanga (Mātauranga Māori) (L2)

Before you start

This Tikanga Level 2 qualification is open to everyone —  it is designed for individuals from all backgrounds who want to build their understanding of tikanga Māori and apply it in everyday life, the workplace, or within their community.

To enrol, you need to be in a paid job, self-employed, or volunteering in a role with regular and consistent hours. If you’re not currently in a role, get in touch — we’re here to help you explore your options and find a pathway that works for you.

What's involved?

This qualification is delivered through two microcredentials: Piki Ake and Kake Ake. You can do the 
full qualification, or choose to do one of the microcredentials.

Piki Ake covers:
• Module 1: Ngā Atua Māori - In the beginning
• Module 2: Introduction to Māori history
• Module 3: Manaaki on the marae - Pōwhiri.

Kake Ake covers:
• Module 1: Hui tikanga - Karakia and waiata
• Module 2: Introduction to pūrākau
• Module 3: Introduction to Te Ao Māori values.
